A brief introduction of the development status of flying leads used in subsea production system at home and abroad is made. The types, main functions and common installation methods of the flying leads are analyzed. Based on the analysis work, the overview of the installation methods of different types of flying leads in a 1 500 m water depth oil and gas development project in the South China Sea is presented, including the main installation devices, main installation steps and key installation technologies. The reference can be provided for the future flying leads installation in deep water oil and gas development projects and other subsea engineering projects.
