Abstract:As one of the numerical simulation methods, which is suitable for analyzing the mechanical behavior of discontinued medium, the Distinct Element Method (DEM) is widely used in the field of ocean engineering. The basic principles of DEM are introduced, and the application status of DEM is addressed based on a large number of literature researches, including the aspects of the interaction between the marine structures and ice or seabed, seabed scouring, particulate migration, etc. The application and development of DEM in ocean engineering are discussed.
