Abstract:Aiming at the situation that the end gap og the weld access hole is usually treated by wrapping angle in the process of offshore engineering construction which results in the non-smooth edge of the weld access hole and is prone to stress concentration, the requirements of the codes are compared, and two different methods to deal with the problem are put forward, i.e. fullpenetration transition and flexible wrap angle. The feasibility of the new methods is verified by test welding and finite element analysis. It is shown that these two methods can provide solutions to this type of problems for subsequent projects.
